The Challenge
Local directories in the Massachusetts market were outdated, slow, and difficult to use on mobile — leaving a clear gap for a modern, UX-focused alternative.
Business owners had no self-service listing capability — submission processes on competing platforms required phone calls or manual form submissions.
The platform needed an SEO-optimised URL structure to rank for high-intent local searches without expensive paid advertising.
Admin management of listings, categories, and featured placements required a flexible, easy-to-use backend — not a complex CMS.
Our Approach
Designed the information architecture around two primary user journeys: business owners listing their services, and local consumers discovering businesses.
Built a structured SEO URL framework targeting category and city combinations — e.g., /category/restaurants-food/brockton/pizza — to capture high-intent local search traffic.
Created an Admin Portal enabling the management team to approve listings, manage categories and cities, and control featured placement positions across the platform.
Focused on mobile-first design throughout, given that the majority of local search traffic originates from smartphones.
The Solution
Public Discovery Platform: Browse by category and city, detailed business profiles, featured listings carousel, and a mobile-first interface built for fast local search.
Business Listing System: Self-service submission with category selection, service descriptions, image galleries, contact details, and location.
Admin Portal: Full listing moderation, category and city management, featured placement control, and platform activity monitoring.
SEO URL structure generating thousands of indexable city/category/subcategory combinations for organic search coverage.
Performance-optimised static generation for listing pages, ensuring fast load times even on mobile networks.
